Grant Thornton advises on the South Bank's new national film
centre
The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown recently announced that a new
state-of-the-art national film centre is to be created on London
South Bank. Grant Thornton UK LLP led the development of the
business case for this exciting new project.
Over the past year, Grant Thornton has worked with the British
Film Institute, the UK Film Council, the Department for Culture
Media and Sport, and HM Treasury on this project to capture the
reasoning for initiating the development, pulling together the
information necessary to assess benefits against costs and
resources.
The British Film Institute (BFI) National Film Centre will
showcase the best of British and world cinema and will provide an
innovative new space for exhibitions, cultural events, research and
study. The total cost is expected to be £166m. The
Government and the LDA will provide £50m and the BFI will fundraise
to meet the balance. The centre is expected to be completed
by 2015.
Karl Eddy, Head of Government Infrastructure Advisory at Grant
Thornton said: "We are delighted to have worked with government
departments and the film industry on this exciting project, which
aims to create a newly established centre for British film in
London's South Bank. Despite the economic downturn, supporting the
arts remains a main a focus for the government and we are proud
that our expertise and knowledge in consulting on public sector
projects of such huge ambition is contributing to achieving this
goal."
