Grant Thornton welcomes the launch of the ICAEW foundation
research on the review of the combined code of corporate
governance
Grant Thornton, the leading business and financial advisers,
welcomes the publication of the ICAEW Foundation Research on the
review of the Combined Code of Corporate Governance, which focuses
on the risk management practices of the largest UK non-financial
institutions.
"This piece of research is timely against the background of much
discussion on greater regulation in the financial sector. It goes
to the very crux of what non-financial services company boards and
senior management are doing to oversee risk-taking and risk
management. It will enable regulators to better understand existing
practice and provide guidance on what changes are necessary," says
Steve Maslin, Chair of the Partnership Oversight Board at Grant
Thornton.
"We would agree with the findings that corporate governance
rests primarily on human behaviour and that we should not let the
recent near collapse in the banking industry unduly influence the
Combined Code. Clearly there are aspects of the Code which can be
refreshed but it remains fit for purpose," concludes Maslin.
